Day Four: Make and Serve Breakfast, Clean Up

Instead of breaking this into three separate days, let's tackle this project head-on: Breakfast.

There's a reason that it's called the most important meal of the day, and it sets up the entire day for you. It helps you and yours fuel your minds and bodies for what you need to tackle throughout the day.

Today, we aren't going to worry about planning a breakfast, and we will start with something very simple. Breakfast, today, is going to be what you have in your cupboards or fridge that you like. Ideas for on the go, unplanned breakfast meals are cereal, granola, yogurt, fruit, toaster waffles, toast, beans, rice - really anything that can be warmed up or eaten as-is. Don't forget coffee or tea if your family partakes in hot beverages in the morning.

Instead of making coffee or tea by the cup, use the teapot or a nice carafe to serve.

Everyone who will be enjoying the meal should sit together at the table and using proper plates and cutlery, even if all you're taking in is tea and cereal.

As breakfast will be a relatively simple affair today, there should be minimal tidying up post-meal. Dispose of the waste appropriately (compost, garburator, or garbage), and place dishes into dishwasher should you have one, or quickly run the sink and wash the dishes up right away. Washing immediately prevents food from becoming hardened onto plates and cutlery, which will make your cleaning time much easier.

It's your preference if you would like to dry and put away right away, or if you prefer to air dry and put away later.

Is the dishwasher full now? Run it as soon as it's full to keep the cycle of clean dishes moving along.

All boxes, jugs, containers, tea bags and whatnot should be put into their appropriate places after the meal. Put away canisters of coffee and tea into your pantry, should space allow, to keep a tidy appearance on the counter tops. Swish out the tea pot with water (never wash with soap and water 1 unless mould has accumulated), clear out the coffee maker and allow to dry.

Do a quick, but thorough, wipe down of the table and any areas used in meal preparation.

This sounds like a lot, when reading through, the the tidying up will be quick and painless if done quickly. Efficiency is key and making your home work for you is the name of this game.

After your breakfast has been prepared, served and cleaned up, you can think about what you would like to have for breakfast tomorrow. Would you like something hot and made, like pancakes, or are you a toast-and-juice loving family? Should your family unit prefer hot breakfast, you will need to make allowances for that tomorrow morning by either preparing the night before, or waking earlier in order to have it ready on time.

The simple act of being seated together, regardless of what is served, is a vital part of the family unit, regardless of what that looks like. It fosters  beautiful sense of togetherness and allows for easy conversation to become fluent.

For reference, this is your Daily Schedule
